Surface Preparation

Surface preparation is very important for obtaining a good touch-up job. Make sure the touch-up area is dry and free of grease, oil, rust and wax. A mild solvent may be used for cleaning the area. Glossy areas should be dulled by use of a fine to medium grit sand paper to ensure the best adhesion of the touch-up paint.

Touch-Up Pen Use, Storage and Disposal

Allow the pens to warm to room temperature and make certain that each pen is tightly capped. Shake the pen for at least one minute after you hear the mixing ball begin to rattle. If the paint is not adequately mixed the color may be affected.

After shaking the pen, activate it by pressing the applicator tip until it is saturated with paint. Use either the wide or the narrow edge of the applicator tip to apply the paint.

Pens are easy to store because of their size and shape. The airtight cap will seal the wetted tips for many months use. Pens are easily disposed of when empty. If your pens still contain liquid paint, you should contact your local waste management center for proper disposal information.

Touch-Up Bottle Use, Storage and Disposal

Allow the touch-up bottles to warm to room temperature and make certain the bottle is tightly capped. Shake the bottle for at least a minute after you hear the mixing ball begin to rattle. If the paint is not adequately mixed, the color may be affected.

Dip the brush into the bottle as far as it will go. Slowly remove the brush from the bottle. Use the brush wiper, which is mounted in the bottle opening, to wipe away excess paint from the brush. Brush the paint on with smooth strokes. Use very slight pressure when applying. Avoid retouching the wet paint film with the brush after it has been applied. Do not try to retouch applied paint after it has set up for more than two minutes. Recap the bottle tightly after the application is finished.

Always store the bottles upright and in an area where temperatures do not exceed 120 degrees Fahrenheit. It is not advisable to store paint at either temperature extreme for prolonged periods.

You can dispose of brush in Cap bottles when they are empty. IF your bottles still contain liquid paint, you should contact your local waste management center for proper disposal information.

Aerosol Can Use, Storage and Disposal

Allow the container to warm to room temperature. However, DO NOT HEAT it. Shake the can for at least two minutes after you hear the mixing ball start to rattle. If you cannot hear the mixing ball rolling freely in the can, turn it upside down and tap the bottom with your hand. Improper shaking and mixing can change the color and gloss of the touch-up paint. Therefore, it is best to repeat the mixing process periodically during use.

Hold the can upright 6 to 8 inches from the surface. Press the spray tip firmly to open the valve completely. Apply the paint in steady, even ”misting” strokes. Allow the paint to become tacky between each new coat.

If the spray tip becomes clogged, twist it off. Clean the opening and clean the slot in the stem of the spray tip. Replace at once with careful twisting motions. NEVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES STICK ANY SHARP OBJECT INTO THE HOLE ON THE TOP OF THE CAN.
The valve must be evacuated to prevent clogging between applications and during storage. Evacuation is accomplished by holding the aerosol upside down and spraying until a clear gas is discharged.

The correct color and gloss can be achieved by following the application instructions and by spraying to opacity or the point where light can no longer penetrate the layers of paint and reflect off the surface being covered. If you can see the original surface or the color doesn’t match, simply apply a few more coats.

Aerosol touch-ups should always be stored in an upright position. Storing them upside down may cause pigment to settle in the valve and cause blockage. Cold will not harm the aerosols; however, let them settle to room temperature before using. They should never be stored where temperatures may exceed 120 degrees F. It is advisable to avoid storing cans at either temperature extreme for prolonged periods. When proper storage methods and valve evacuation procedures are used you should expect up to 1-year shelf life from your touch-ups.

CFCs & Recycling

Many of our paint formulations meet stringent VOC requirements. Our aerosol cans are fully recyclable They do not contain ozone-depleting CFCs. Aerosols are hermetically sealed tamper-proof containers. Their contents cannot spill or spoil. The plastic over-caps and shipping cartons are also recyclable. We use recycled paper packing materials in shipping cartons.

Lead & Lead Dust Information

 Products are lead free. They are intended for industrial use. In the unlikely event of consumer use, it must be recognized that in scraping, sanding or removing old paint for surface preparation, you may release toxic lead dust. Exposure to lead dust can cause serious illness, especially in children.
